Ukraine: urgent member appeal to help journalists
The NUJ is asking members to stand in solidarity with journalists in Ukraine, by donating to a dedicated safety fund.
Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary, has written to NUJ members asking for their help supporting a new Ukraine safety fund. The fund has been created by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and the European Federation of Journalists, to provide emergency assistance to journalists working in challenging conditions in Ukraine.
All donations will go directly to support colleagues reporting from the frontline, and can be made using this link.
The union's warzone safety page provides useful information for journalists in Ukraine and includes our Storysmart safety training modules, alongside the IFJ’s safety advice. The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine has created a hotline open to international journalists reporting on the conflict.
The NUJ has called on Unesco to act to guarantee the safety of media workers in their vital work, and the union is seeking funding to provide urgent medical and safety supplies from the UK and Irish governments.
