Ukraine: Russian journalist Oksana Baulina killed
NUJ condemns journalists' death adding to the rising number of media workers killed during the war on Ukraine.
The NUJ has joined the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) in condemning the actions of Russia's troops in Ukraine, and the killing of journalist Oksana Baulina. In her work for 'The Insider', Baulina covered corruption taking place in Russia. It is reported that she "died under fire" as a result of shelling in Ukraine's capital city. Gunfire killed another civillian in the attack, and two other people were injured.
Journalists reporting on the war have been subject to attacks since it first began, and at least five media workers have been killed. The NUJ and sister unions have called for the protection and safety of journalists and continue to encourage donations to the IFJ-EFJ safety fund. Members are reminded that all donations made to the fund, go directly towards providing emergency assistance.
