Switzerland: women journalists to strike on 14 June
NUJ stands in solidarity with journalists’ unions demanding improved working conditions across the media.
The National Union of Journalists has extended its solidarity to women journalists on strike in Switzerland tomorrow as they call for equal pay, better protection against harassment, the removal of sexism and racism and improved diversity in the media.
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ)'s Gender Council has supported the strike and expressed its concern about the decline of women’s rights worldwide.
María Ángeles, Gender Council president, said:
"Without equality between men and women, there can be no justice or democracy. This also applies to the situation of women journalists, who all too often still work in more precarious conditions than men. We need to change this dynamic, not only to strengthen equality in the newsrooms but also to offer a more inclusive media discourse in favour of women and free of racism."
