NUJ supports members at The Independent in pursuing meaningful consultation to avoid redundancies
Union urges company to reconsider its position to prevent job cuts.
NUJ senior officials are advising and supporting our members in the process of consultation on the decision by The Independent to place around 30 editorial roles at risk of redundancy, as part of a proposed programme of the reduction of 52 jobs, within the publisher.
The union is working with members in urgent ongoing meetings to give them support in their efforts to reverse plans for such devastating job losses.
David Ayrton, NUJ senior organiser, said:
“Members are understandably worried about what these proposals will mean for them and their families and the NUJ calls upon the company to reconsider its position and, via meaningful consultation, to pursue a policy of energetically seeking to avoid redundancies.”
