NUJ sends message of solidarity to BBC Cairo
The journalists are holding a three-day strike from July 17 over their demands for fair pay.
Michelle Stanistreet, general secretary, said:
"The NUJ sends a message of solidarity to colleagues at BBC Cairo who are holding a three-day strike from July 17 over their demands for fair pay – their second strike in nearly a month. These staff members are producing news in a country which is known for being hostile to the press and press freedom, and having to work against the backdrop of soaring inflation which has led to basic commodities doubling over the past few months. The NUJ continues to press the BBC in London to resolve this dispute and calls on them to engage in meaningful negotiations to bring this dispute to an end."
