Today the Media Lawyers Association has published a legal guide for journalists in England and Wales focused on combating online harassment and abuse.
The guide is part of the ongoing work of the National Committee for the Safety of Journalists which brings together representatives from government, journalism, policing, prosecution services and civil society to work in collaboration to make sure journalists in the UK are able to operate free from threats and violence. The NUJ is represented on the committee and welcomes the publication of the guidance.
The guide has been written by Beth Grossman, a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers specialising in media law. Strategic input has been provided by Caoilfhionn Gallagher QC, a leading expert in international human rights law and the safety of journalists.
