BBC Persian chapel expresses support and solidarity with Iran International NUJ members

To our friends and colleagues, fellow members of the National Union of Journalists at Iran International
We at the BBC Persian chapel of the NUJ would like to express our support and solidarity with you in demanding your moral and legal rights to have your voice heard through joining the trade union of your choice, and choosing your own representatives.
As journalists covering countries such as Iran, unfortunately we are all too familiar with how some may try to undermine workers' voice by banning their trade union and appointing an obscure body as the representative of their employees.
It was the NUJ that stood shoulder to shoulder with journalists at BBC Persian to condemn harassment of us and our families in Iran. It was the NUJ that started an international campaign, alongside the BBC, to raise awareness about our plight and get Iranian authorities to stop targeting journalists and their families. It was also the NUJ that took up the case of Iran International journalists who have faced threats against themselves and their loved ones back in Iran.
That is why we are calling on the management of Iran International to review their decisions, and to recognise the important, constructive role the NUJ can play in improving the workplace, and also in coordinating efforts against the harassment of journalists and their families in Iran. Workers' rights are an essential part of human rights, and if we want to see them respected in Iran, we should start by setting an example in the UK.

ما در شاخه بی‌بی‌سی فارسی ان‌یو‌جی می‌خواهیم حمایت و همبستگی‌مان را با شما در تأکید بر حق اخلاقی و قانونی‌تان برای عضویت در انجمن صنفی دلخواه خودتان، و انتخاب نمایندگان منتخب خودتان ابراز کنیم.
به عنوان روزنامه‌نگارانی که کشورهایی نظیر ایران را پوشش خبری می‌دهیم، ما متأسفانه با تلاش‌ها برای خاموش کردن صدای کارکنان از طریق ممنوع کردن انجمن صنفی خودشان و انتصاب نهادی ناشناخته به عنوان نماینده آن‌ها، به خوبی آشناییم.
این ان‌یو‌جی بود که شانه به شانه روزنامه‌نگاران بی‌بی‌سی فارسی ایستاد و اذیت و آزار ما و خانواده‌هایمان در ایران را محکوم کرد. این ان‌یو‌جی بود که یک کمپین بین‌المللی را - در کنار بی‌بی‌سی - آغاز کرد تا آگاهی از رنج ما را بالا ببرد و تلاش کند مقام‌های ایران را مجبور کند که از هدف گرفتن روزنامه‌نگاران و خانواده‌هایشان دست بردارند. همین طور این ان‌یو‌جی بود که پرونده تهدیدها علیه روزنامه‌نگاران ایران‌اینترنشنال و خانواده‌هایشان در ایران را به دست گرفت.
به همین دلیل است که ما از مدیریت ایران‌اینترنشنال می‌خواهیم که در تصمیمش تجدید نظر کند، و نقش مهم و سازنده‌ای را که ان‌یو‌جی می‌تواند در بهبود فضای کار و نیز هماهنگی تلاش‌ها بر ضد اذیت آزار روزنامه‌نگاران و خانواده‌هایشان در ایران بازی کند، درک کند.
حقوق نیروی کار بخشی کلیدی از حقوق بشر است. اگر می‌خواهیم به حقوق بشر در ایران احترام گذاشته شود، باید با ایجاد نمونه و سرمشقی در بریتانیا آغاز کنیم.
