NUJ and Liberty force government to amend Snoopers’ Charter

The Court of Appeal has handed down its judgment in the latest stage of Liberty’s legal action challenging the Investigatory Powers Act 2016, in which the NUJ intervened on behalf of its members to lead on arguments on the protection of journalistic communications and sources.

NUJ granted permission to intervene in “Snoopers Charter” appeal

The NUJ has been granted permission to intervene in the human rights organisation Liberty’s “People vs the snoopers’ charter” appeal in the Court of Appeal.

NUJ Photographer Andy Aitchison receives an apology from Kent Police

He received a full apology from the Chief Constable of Kent Police, Alan Pughsley, which includes admissions that Mr Aitchison’s arrest, the search of his property and the imposition of bail conditions and Fixed Penalty Notice were all unlawful.

Kent police must be investigated after seizing photographer's phone and memory card, says NUJ

Andy Aitchison, who was arrested while covering a protest at Napier Barracks, Folkestone, has now had his equipment returned.
