Your employer is allowed to include the eight UK bank holidays in your minimum annual holiday entitlement of 5.6 weeks.
How bank holidays are treated depends on what is contained in your contract and any other policies.
There is no automatic legal right to take bank holidays off work. But if you have to work them, you must be given time off in lieu.
Nor is there any right to extra pay for working bank holidays, though enhanced rates have been negotiated in some workplaces where the NUJ is recognised.
